The Meta Quest series has been a game-changer in the virtual reality world, and with the success of the Meta Quest 3, anticipation is building for the next masterpiece, the Meta Quest 4.
Although the Meta Quest 3 and 3S were released last year, there’s already news and early leaks about Meta’s next big launch, the Meta Quest 4.
In this blog post, I’ll provide brief details about Meta Quest 4 release date, variants, price and storage, features, design and controllers.
Let’s start!
What is Meta Quest 4
Meta is working on Meta Quest 4, a virtual reality (VR) headset. It is expected to be released in 2026.
It is rumored to come in two variants: the Meta Quest 4 and the Meta Quest 4s. So there will be a high-end and an affordable choice.
Even though there aren’t many official details, leaks say that Quest 4 will have a lighter design, better battery life, and faster CPU and GPU performance. Reports say that Meta might add OLED screens, which would make the contrast and quality of the picture much better.

Meta Quest 4 Release Date
Meta Quest 4 is expected to launch in October 2026, according to a reliable source.
As Meta continues to prioritize AR/VR technology, we’ll see shorter gap between each new Quest release. Considering the previous 3-year gap between Quest 2 and 3, expecting the next model after just two years is quite logical and sensible.
Based on past release trends and current timing, we can expect the new Meta Quest 4 will launch around mid-October 2026.
Meta Quest | Release Date |
Meta Quest 2 | October 13, 2020 |
Meta Quest 3 | October 10, 2023 |
Meta Quest 3S | October 15, 2024 |
Meta Quest 4 | October 10-15, 2026 (Expected) |
Meta Quest 4 Variants
According to The Information, Meta Quest 4 will be available in two exciting variants, Pismo Low and Prismo High.
We can assume that Meta will release both affordable variant and advanced model of Meta Quest 4 at the same time.
According to the codenames, the key difference, beyond pricing, the Prismo High may features advanced lens technology and offering better resolution and viewing angles.
Meta Quest 4 Price and Storage
Meta Quest 4 Price is expected between $499-$550 with 128 GB storage.
When the Oculus Quest 2 (initially named) base version launched, offered 64GB storage priced at $299. Although the Meta Quest 3 now costs $499, $200 more than the previous model, but offer 128GB storage, double the previous Quest.
Given that 128GB has become the standard base storage in current devices, we can expect the Meta Quest 4 to features the same storage.
At $499, it feel like a great deal for now. But with the possibility of new features increasing the cost, though there’s always a chance it could stay at $499. May be the lower-end variant Prismo Low will come with this price. But we are expecting high price for advanced variant Prismo High.
Expected Meta Quest 4 Features
As with all things related to the Meta Quest 4 for now, early clue strongly point to Meta looking to improve its next headsets with eye tracking.
It goes beyond basic eye tracking to full facial tracking, so you VR character will show every real expression.
What’s even more impressive is the possibility that the Quest 4 might enable video calling similar to the Apple Vision Pro, showing your real face, upper body live. But maybe we’re just getting a little too hopeful.
Clearly, Meta likely wants to challenge the Vision Pro, and it’s expecting the more affordable versions, making facial tracking up the Meta Quest 4 a logical next step.
According to Mixed-News, Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth believes eye tracking is challenging and costly to implement. It’s expected to become a standard features in future Quest headsets.
Meta Quest 4 Design
For now, we’re not expecting any significant updates to the design. It’s expected that both Meta Quest 4 variants will be similar to Quest 3, with sensor at the front and sides, a plastic and lighter build.
The Quest 3 weighs 515 grams compared to the Quest 2’s 503, we might see an increase, if the Quest 4 ads a wider field of view and a large display.
Met Quest 4 Controllers
Just like design, the Quest 4 controllers are expected to remain the same as the Quest 3, with nothing left to improve.
We may want Meta to upgrade to built-in rechargeable batteries instead of replaceable ones. But sticking to their cost-saving approach makes those changes unlikely for now.
Conclusion
The Meta Quest 4 is expecting with better and advanced features, design and cost friendly. But the releasing date is about mid-October 2026. If you want to buy Meta Quest, then go for Meta Quest 3 now and experience AR/VR.
However, one and half year is a long time to wait. But if you are Okay with waiting, then Meta Quest 4 will give you better experience than what we have now.
