Key Takeaways

  • Dead by Daylight marked its 10th anniversary stream by revealing Jason Voorhees as the new killer, arriving June 16 with a teleportation-based ability inspired by his slasher style.
  • A Terrifier crossover bringing Art the Clown to the game is confirmed for November 2026, while Frank Stone, the killer at the centre of DBD’s own lore, arrives in 2027
  • The game’s first Indigenous survivor, Shane Wiigwaas, developed with Anishinaabe community input, launches June 25 in The Life Road chapter.
  • A new mall map, Scooby-Doo and Diablo cosmetics, modding tools planned for 2027, and a Dead by Daylight film directed by Thordur Palsson were also confirmed.

Ten years is a long time for any multiplayer game to stay relevant, let alone to still be the genre-defining title it was at launch.

Dead by Daylight turned 10 years old on June 14, 2026, and Behaviour Interactive marked the occasion with an anniversary stream packed with announcements spanning the next eighteen months of content.

What emerged was less a victory lap and more a roadmap, one built almost entirely around licensed horror IP, community-requested content, and a deliberate decision to never build a sequel.

Jason Voorhees, Art the Clown, and a Decade-Long Rights Saga Finally Resolved

Jason Voorhees arrives in Dead by Daylight on June 16 as a new crossover killer, with an ability that lets him quickly phase across the map, reflecting his sudden appearances in the Friday the 13th films.

Executive producer Jose Ramos said discussions to bring Jason into the game gained momentum over recent years following legal disputes over the franchise rights.

The game will also cross over with Terrifier in November 2026, featuring Art the Clown. The team plans four chapters per year, with about half being licensed crossovers.

In 2027, Frank Stone from The Casting of Frank Stone will join the roster, alongside a community-driven chapter, Chorus of Sin, arriving August 25. This licensed-crossover cadence defines modern live-service sustainability.

Yet, while Call of Duty leans on crossovers for largely cosmetic multiplayer content ahead of its October launch, Dead by Daylight folds these characters directly into its asymmetrical gameplay, meaning each addition can materially change how matches play out.

A New Survivor, a Mall Map, and “We’re Not Doing a Sequel”

Dead by Daylight is adding its first Indigenous survivor, Shane Wiigwaas, created in collaboration with a representative of the Anishinaabe community. Shane arrives on June 25 as part of The Life Road chapter.

A new mall-themed map is also in development, based on community survey data, where it ranked as the most requested theme, narrowly ahead of a Backrooms-style concept. The map aims for a liminal-horror feel without directly copying the Backrooms.

Behaviour also reaffirmed it has no plans for a sequel, instead expanding the existing game with new modes like potential 1v1 and zombie variants while keeping its core 4v1 structure. This contrasts with studios like Bungie, which chose to end Destiny 2 rather than continue evolving it.

Cosmetics, Modding Tools, and a Movie With a Director At Last

New cosmetic crossovers include Walking Dead-inspired outfits for Rick Grimes, including variants resembling Glenn and Negan, a Silent Hill f-inspired look for Cheryl, and a Silent Hill Nurse skin for The Spirit.

New franchises entering Dead by Daylight include Scooby-Doo cosmetics and Diablo-themed outfits, alongside an Iron Maiden Huntress skin and an Ice Nine Kills collection. A major addition is modding tools planned for 2027, letting players create custom maps and modes.

The game will also receive a visual overhaul the same year, updating character models, maps, and PC requirements, alongside improved onboarding for new players.

This reflects a broader live-service trend in gaming where major titles lean on community-driven updates and long-term expansion instead of sequels.

Finally, a Dead by Daylight film is now moving forward with director Thordur Palsson, from a script by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
