Dungeons & Dragons opened Gen Con 2026 in Indianapolis by renting out the Indiana Repertory Theatre for a four-day “D&D Tower,” and the Vision Keynote inside delivered the biggest slate of announcements the tabletop giant has made in years.
Capitalizing on broader gaming trends toward cross-industry expansion, Wizards of the Coast laid out a seasonal content roadmap stretching into 2027.
It is headlined by a sprawling World of Warcraft crossover and a Star Wars reveal fans won’t want to miss.
Season of Champions Brings Azeroth to the Table
As The Gamer notes, the biggest announcement was Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, a 256-page expansion launching on November 17 as the first release under Wizards’ new Universes Beyond initiative, developed with Blizzard Entertainment.
The book adds 11 species, 9 subclasses, seven WoW dungeons, more than 60 spells, 30 boss stat blocks, and characters like Arthas and Jaina Proudmoore.
Fans looking to explore Azeroth’s lore can revisit World of Warcraft’s roadmap from The War Within to Midnight before diving in.
The release also includes an Icecrown Citadel map pack, a DM screen, two miniature packs, and is available for pre-order.
A Galaxy Far, Far Away Joins the Roadmap
The night’s biggest surprise came when Darth Vader took the stage to confirm Star Wars is coming to Dungeons & Dragons for the first time, folded into a “Season of Rebellion” targeted for 2027.
Wizards offered no mechanical details beyond the reveal itself, leaving the crossover’s rules and scope a mystery for now.
It joins two other major 2027 releases: Dark Sun, D&D’s first mature-rated setting, featuring the returning Psion class across the Blood & Power and Edge of Oblivion expansions.
The second is Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, a 160-page campaign centered on Drelnza, the vampire daughter of the archmage Tasha.
Legendary Designers Return Through D&D Icons
Wizards also launched D&D Icons, a creator program led by actor Joe Manganiello as chief creative officer, bringing Luke Gygax back to Greyhawk, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman to Dragonlance, and R.A. Salvatore to Legend of Drizzt.
The move follows Wizards of the Coast’s recent Magic: The Gathering banned and restricted update, which reshuffled the competitive Legacy format.
D&D Beyond is also adding a party-finding page, a StartPlaying.games partnership for discounted online sessions, and a mobile app overhaul due in 2027.
The keynote also confirmed Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons will feature Tasha the Witch Queen, voiced by Maggie Robertson, with gameplay debuting at Gamescom next month.
